French New Wave Music at The Metropolitan Room

On June 16 at 9:30 PM, Shelley will perform the French New Wave-inspired solo cabaret "You Can't Kiss a Movie" at The Metropolitan Room.

A reimagining of film techniques for live performance, "You Can’t Kiss a Movie" uses the French New Wave films of the 1960s as inspiration for an original story about an ill-fated love affair, told through the songs and text of those movies. This bilingual cabaret tweaks the films’ gender roles while continuing their debate over the costs and virtues of emotional engagement in art and life. The performance is a love letter to a groundbreaking moment in film history that's accessible to film buffs and newcomers alike.
